Three Wishes by Stephanie Bond

About the Book

This book is based on the fairy tale Aladdin (genie, magic lamp, down-and-out falls for beautiful princess).

What I Think

Every now and then a girl needs to read something full of fun & frolics. Well, this girl does! I was delighted when I found this particular 'chick lit' book as I can also say that I read this in the name of research: I was writing a short story based on the idea of Aladdin.

This book got off to a slightly shaky start. The main female character is called Jasmine (no doubt referring to the Disney film) and Ladden Sanderson, working in Ladden's Castle (an antique store), is the male character. I found these to be a little cringe-worthy. However, if you get past the first few pages, you're in for a treat!

This was a very sweet and surprisingly well-written book that kept me turning the pages (or to be more precise pressing the > button on my kindle). The magical element of the story was dealt with well and although not totally plausible, I'm not sure it was meant to be.

Despite knowing the ending, as all fairy tales have a happy ending, I was interested enough to know how they were going to get to the end to keep reading. Recommended for a light-hearted and fun read!
